Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract

World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus already knew the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract would mean he’d have a new No. 1 contender. Now, after the final qualifying match on Monday night's Raw SuperShow, The Great White knows all eight interesting possibilities for whom that contender could be.

Following a series of qualifying matches that took place over the past few weeks, the competitors in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract have been decided, and the field is an exciting one featuring a diverse mix of styles.

“The Intellectual Savior to the Unwashed Masses,” Damien Sandow, was the first to punch his ticket back on the June 29 edition of SmackDown. Staving off the “ignorance, mediocrity and stupidity” of fan-favorite Zack Ryder, Sandow continued his unbeaten ways, winning the most important match of his young WWE career. Will “The Enlightened One” emerge victorious in the grueling Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract or is the loquacious Superstar biting off more than he can chew?

In SmackDown’s second qualifying match on June 29, Tyson Kidd picked up an upset win over a Superstar who not only previously won a Money in the Bank Ladder Match, but also successfully cashed in the contract, Jack Swagger. Pinning “The All-American American” after a back-and-forth contest, the always exciting Kidd booked himself a spot in a match where truly anything can happen.

Intercontinental Champion Christian and United States Champion Santino Marella sealed their spots in the match with a tag team victory over Cody Rhodes and David Otunga on June 29. The recently re-inspired Christian borrowed from his best friend, WWE Hall of Famer Edge, when he used a Spear to dispatch Otunga. Could either Captain Charisma or the master of The Cobra become the first dual-title holder since Ultimate Warrior?

The fearsome Tensai withstood the high-flying attacks of a game Justin Gabriel to make himself the fifth entrant in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract. Massive, powerful and relentless, the Japanese import figures to play a major role in this contest, as he looks to gain a guaranteed shot at Sheamus’ title.

On the special SuperSmackDown LIVE on July 3, Rhodes re-entered the Money in the Bank picture after Interim General Manager Theodore Long agreed to let him fight for a spot in the match. (Rhodes had previously lodged a formal protest on the grounds that he was not pinned in his first qualifying match, the aforementioned tag bout.) To secure his place, Rhodes had to defeat Intercontinental Champion Christian, which he did in a hard-fought battle. Will Rhodes be able to squeeze past Christian – and six other Superstars – on July 15?

Adding to the intrigue of the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract is Dolph Ziggler, who upended Alex Riley in a qualifying match on the July 3 show. Though The Showoff has had a tough go of trying to end Sheamus’ title reign in recent weeks, have back-to-back losses to The Celtic Warrior only served to further motivate the unquestionably driven Ziggler?

The eighth and final contestant is bound to add a whole different, daring element to the fast and furious action. Sin Cara won the last qualifying match on the July 9 edition of Raw SuperShow, capturing a spot in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match for the second year in a row. It was at Money in the Bank 2011 that The International Sensation took a brutal powerbomb through a ladder at the hands of Sheamus, knocking him out of the bout completely. Can Sin Cara beat the odds and move on to face the very Superstar who viciously injured him?

With eight qualifiers in total, the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling encounters of the year.

For the uninitiated, the savage Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract pits competitors against each other in a free-for-all format. Surrounding the ring is an assortment of ladders Superstars use to reach the prize that dangles 15 feet in the air: a contract that guarantees a title opportunity at the time and place of the winning Superstar’s choosing. So far, everyone who cashed in his contract has come away from his challenge as a new champion.

At Money in the Bank, one Superstar will emerge victorious from the chaos that is the Money in the Bank Ladder Match for a World Championship Contract with a golden opportunity at Sheamus’ World Heavyweight Title. Tune in to Money in the Bank July 15, live on pay-per-view at 8 ET/5 PT. (HOW TO WATCH)

No Way Out 2012 » Matches » Santino Marella vs Ricardo Rodriguez (US Championship - Tuxedo Match)

Six days after he stripped away Ricardo Rodriguez’s dress shirt to expose Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer as a closet Justin Bieber fan, United States Champion Santino Marella will tie up with Rodriguez in a special Tuxedo Match at No Way Out. The rarely seen stipulation match, a non-title bout requested by The Milan Miracle, will square away some of the bad blood that has developed in recent weeks between two of WWE’s most lighthearted Superstars.

Described by Marella as “one of the most electrifying matches in sports-entertainment,” Tuxedo Matches require both competitors to enter the fray in full penguin suits. The objective is to strip the other man of his outfit. For a rivalry that has featured plenty of laughs and more than a tinge of humiliation, the Tuxedo Match is a wholly appropriate venue for Marella and Rodriguez to settle the score.

Though many ring announcers over the years, from WWE Hall of Famer Howard Finkel to Tony Chimel, have found their way into such lapel-shredding encounters, it remains to be seen whether this stipulation actually better suits Rodriguez than it does Marella. At the very least, Del Rio’s golden-voiced second has experience running the ropes in wingtip shoes.

After the two quarreled on Raw SuperShow over who was the better ring announcer, The Milan Miracle and Rodriguez finally locked up on the May 25 SmackDown. Though the action was largely one-sided — the United States Champion won after hitting The Cobra — Rodriguez, who was dressed in a full tuxedo, demonstrated flairs of athleticism, including a high leap frog.

What appeared to begin as a somewhat friendly competition, however, took a turn for the sinister on the May 28 Raw, when Marella faced Del Rio in a Non-Title Match. After Del Rio made short work of Marella, forcing the U.S. Champion to tap to his Cross Armbreaker in less than a minute, Rodriguez added insult to injury by repeatedly belting the winner’s name directly into Marella’s ear.

That humiliation prompted this tweet from @MilanMiracle the following day: “@RRWWE made a big mistake rubbing in what del rio did, he jumped me and got the best of me yes, not you, if u want a piece of beef, u got it!”

The normally jovial Marella appears to have been pushed to his breaking point. Luckily for Rodriguez, now that his boss has been yanked from the No Way Out lineup due to injury, the ring announcer will have only his match on which to concentrate – his own. Though he appeared wholly overmatched the last time he faced Marella, Rodriguez is, if nothing else, persistent.

For all of his accidents, comical run-ins and mishaps, beneath Rodriguez’s almost huggable exterior is a very real mean streak that has bubbled to the surface on occasion. Is it possible that Rodriguez, tired of being the butt of a joke and frustrated with his lackluster performance against Marella on SmackDown, has upped the intensity of his training and will step into No Way Out in peak form? And will Marella, who has suffered an attack by Big Show in recent weeks, be at the top of his game when the bell rings?

02-17: SmackDown results: Santino shocks the WWE Universe, earning the right to enter the Chamber!

FRESNO,
Calif.
– In a stunning turn of events, Santino Marella

With
such a prestigious opportunity on the line, the competition was fierce from the
word go. The desire to have a chance at the World Heavyweight Title created a slew of incredible moments including Primo eliminating his own cousin Epico, an action-packed struggle between Primo and Justin Gabriel to stay in the match and Hunico
and Ted DiBiase eliminating each other.

In the end, it would all come down to four Superstars: Ezekiel Jackson, Drew McIntyre, David Otunga and the unlikely Santino Marella. With the WWE Universe behind him, Santino
eliminated Drew. Then, minutes later when Jackson charged toward him, the Italian Superstar pulled down the rope, causing The Personification of Domination to fall to the ringside floor.

David Otunga quickly
looked to pick up the pieces, launching a major offensive on his one remaining
roadblock to glory. But, no matter what he did, he could not overcome Santino's spirit. And, when Otunga got a running start to hurl his resilient opponent over the top rope, Santino countered, sending John Laurinaitis' legal counsel to his defeat. Santino Marella survived the odds and would be heading to WWE Elimination
Chamber! (MATCH PREVIEW)

(WATCH | PHOTOS)
Just when it looked like Alicia Fox was about to
tap-out to Natalya's Sharpshooter, the referee was suddenly overcome by a terrible odor
in the vicinity of the Diva action. As Natalya began to argue argued with the official, A-Fox promptly tagged in Tamina, who overcame the third-generation
Diva with a splash off the top rope.

When Beth Phoenix charged after her No. 1 contender after the bell, “The
Warrior Princess” caught her with a powerful kick. But, when she tried for a follow-up splash, The Glamazon got herself out of the ring
at the last second. But, just who will walk out of WWE Elimination Chamber with the Divas
Championship remains to be seen. (MATCH PREVIEW)

SmackDown
General Manager Theodore Long announced Elimination Chamber Wild Card Battle
Royal
(WATCH)
Following the earlier announcement that Randy Orton’s
concussion would prevent him from competing in the SmackDown Elimination
Chamber Match this Sunday (WATCH), Teddy Long decided to offer one Superstar the opportunity of a lifetime – decreeing that any available competitors
from SmackDown, Raw or WWE NXT would be eligible to take part in a main event Elimination Chamber Wild Card Battle Royal to
determine The Viper’s replacement.

World
Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan def. Sheamus by Disqualification
(WATCH | PHOTOS)
With both Randy Orton and Big Show gone from the building, a bragging Daniel Bryan emerged to declare that he would prove everyone wrong yet again by beating the odds and defending his title at WWE Elimination Chamber this Sunday. Bryan then demanded ring announcer
Lilian Garcia declare him the winner of his scheduled match with WWE's Apex Predator by forfeit. But, Theodore Long soon burst his
bubble, informing him that he would be facing Sheamus instead.

In the climax of the knockdown drag-out showdown that followed,
the World Heavyweight Champion purposely provoked the ire of The Great White, spitting directly in his
face. When the referee tried to separate the angry Celtic
Warrior from Bryan, Sheamus threw the official to the ground – bringing the
disqualification defeat upon him. Once again, Daniel Bryan walked out
victorious due to controversial circumstances.

WWE
Tag Team Champions Epico & Primo def. The Usos
(WATCH | PHOTOS)
When a confident Jimmy Uso leaped at Primo off the
top rope to deliver the splash, his resourceful adversary picked up his knees to block the assault.
This set up the WWE Tag Team Champion to hit the Backstabber for the victory, serving as the prelude to another sultry dance by Rosa Mendes.

Hunico
def. Ted DiBiase
(WATCH | PHOTOS)
One week ago, Ted DiBiase scored a
quick win over Hunico, despite the fact that the gutsy Superstar was competing with a still-injured wrist. This week, after DiBiase exacerbated his injury while executing a fierce dropkick, Camacho grabbed his damaged appendage and pulled it
over the ropes with great force. This disruption allowed Hunico to roll his opponent up
for a quick victory of his own.

Big Show destroys SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long's office (WATCH)
Demanding a match with World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan – who attacked him with the World Title on Raw SuperShow – a furious Big Show hit
the WMD on Mark Henry and destroyed Teddy Long’s office in an absolute rage. Despite Teddy's attempts to get extra security, in the end, it was the giant that later voluntarily
vacated the arena.

Big
Show & The Great Khali def. Wade Barrett & Intercontinental Champion
Cody Rhodes
(WATCH | PHOTOS)
In a match between SmackDown Elimination Chamber participants, Big Show teamed with The Great Khali against the crafty combination of Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes. When The World's Largest Athlete tagged into the match, the fired
up giant unleashed an absolutely dominant assault on both of his opponents. Hurling Rhodes backwards out of the
ring with tremendous force, the enormous competitor overcame The Barrett Barrage with a devastating chokeslam.

As the smoke cleared, Big Show delivered the WMD to
Khali, sending the message that it will truly be every Superstar for himself this
Sunday in the SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match. (MATCH PREVIEW)

SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long Takes Randy Orton out of Elimination Chamber (WATCH)
Due to a concussion suffered at the hands Daniel Bryan on Raw four days earlier, The Viper was told by Teddy Long that he will not be cleared to compete on SmackDown or the Elimination Chamber in two days. Knowing Orton's temperament, the GM had security waiting to meet him outside his office to escort him out of the building.
