WWE Night Of Champions 2012 » Matches » The Miz vs Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio vs SinCara (IC Championship - Fatal 4 Way)

In every match, there is a story; a history that follows the two competitors between the ropes and carries them throughout any given contest. The Fatal 4-Way Match for the Intercontinental Championship at Night of Champions is no different. For The Miz, it is, as always, about himself: about forcing his way into the limelight and exerting his brand over WWE, same as it was when he held the WWE Title for five months. And although Miz is the Intercontinental Champion now, his goals are still the same: to take a title known for its classic prestige and usher it into an era of AAAAWWWESOOOMEEE-ness and to transform it into an extension of himself no matter what Superstar stands in his way. The three men who The Awesome One will face have all wronged him or, worse, one-upped him in recent weeks, which means Miz has a major ax to grind. With the Intercontinental Title in hand, he has an opportunity to build himself back up to the mountaintop and rest assured, there is no tactic he won’t exploit to see that his dream is realized once again. For Rey Mysterio, Night of Champions is about retribution. The Master of the 619 challenged The Miz for his title at SummerSlam, seeking his first championship since his return following a year off due to injury. What he got instead was another injury: a concussion sustained at the hands of a ravenous Miz in the process of fending off the masked man’s efforts. The injury put him out of commission for a week, threatening to cut his comeback short before it even began. Recent weeks teaming with Sin Cara, however, have shown that he’s shaken off the hurt. Mysterio is healthy, the playing field is evened once again and the Intercontinental Championship — not to mention the man who wears it — rests squarely in the sights of The Ultimate Underdog. For Sin Cara, this match is about validation. Night of Champions will be one of the first times The International Sensation challenges for a championship in WWE, and expectations for the mystifying luchador are, as always, high. Sin Cara has been on his biggest roll of late, racking up victories over Cody Rhodes, The Miz, and managing to save himself from the same ignominious fate as his doppelganger last year by retaining his signature mask. Victory at Night of Champions will not come with the greatest of ease, but considering Rhodes’ preoccupation with unmasking the luchadores, and Mysterio and Miz focusing on each other, the time is ripe for The Mexican Icon to do what he has always done best: defy the odds, defy expectations, defy gravity and finally hoist championship gold. As for Cody Rhodes? Well. For him, this match might have been about the Intercontinental Title at one time. It might have been about cementing his legacy as the greatest Rhodes in the family tree and establishing himself as the premier young lion in the jungle of WWE. But the prominence of masked men like Mysterio and Sin Cara has awoken an old obsession within Rhodes: the desire to expose the ugliness he believes rests within us all. He has not sought wins so much as humiliation these last few weeks, attempting to pry the masks of both Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara. These attacks have been to the detriment of his win-loss record, but Rhodes has grown more feral as the weeks pass. On Raw, his rage reached a fever pitch when he defeated Mysterio and felled The Miz with Cross Rhodes before grabbing The Awesome One’s title and screaming that it was his “baby.” In the right scenario, with enough factors in play and with just the right element of surprise in his back pocket, Rhodes could, finally, expose his enemies’ faces to the world at last … and maybe, just maybe, reclaim that which was once precious to him in the process. Whose obsession, drive and determination will win out in the Fatal 4-Way? Tune in this Sunday to Night of Champions at 8/7 CT to find out, only on pay-per-view

WWE Ranks World Champions, Mysterio/Sin Cara Working Together

WWE Ranks World Heavyweight Champions

Triple HWWE.com recently posted an article ranking who they feel are the 15 best World Heavyweight Champions in WWE history, with "The Game" Triple H sitting atop the list. Several current and former WWE Superstars are listed, including Goldberg, Batista and WWE Champion CM Punk.

Rey Mysterio/Sin Cara Continue Partnership

WWE's website also features an exclusive interview on their front page, with Rey Mysterio translating for Sin Cara on the topic of his ongoing feud with Cody Rhodes. The two have been working together on both Raw and Smackdown since Mysterio's in-ring return.

01/31/2012 Saturday Morning Slam Results (2nd Episode)

We are welcomed to a "signature" edition of Saturday Morning Slam, where we will take a look at the autographs of WWE Superstars, also an exclusive match with The Funkasaurus. Plus, Rey Mysterio will reveal the secret to his signature move: the 619.
First, we start with the top 5 catchphrases of all time in a segment called: Fave Five. (They don't number these or specify the catchphrases but rather show a video montage that "cleverly" segues from one Superstar to another):

The Rock - "If you smell what the Rock is cooking"

Ric Flair - "To be the man, you gotta beat the man" and "Whooo"

The Miz - "Because I'm the Miz and I'm Awesome."

John Cena - "You can't see me."

Stone Cold - "… And that's the bottom line 'cause Stone Cold said so" and "WHAT?"

We run through a history of John Hancock and his signature. Ziggler, Kofi, Miz, Bateman, and Layla talk about what they have been asked to sign, such as dirty shoes, a baby, prosthetic leg, casts, etc.

We go to Pop Quiz with Alex Riley: "On March 26th 2001, who beat Vince McMahon to the punch and signed the dotted line to become the new owner of WCW?" Stephanie, HHH, or Shane?

Brodus Clay vs. Curt Hawkins

Santino is on commentary with Josh Matthews. Clay out-powers Hawkins and does some gyrations. Hawkins wants to prove he's the better dancer so he stops and says to hit the music. When the music doesn't start he begins to "dance" and even attempts the Worm. Clay laughs and hits a shoulderblock. Hawkins escapes to the announce table and Santino scares him with the Cobra. Clay slingshots Hawkins in off the apron and gives him an airplane spin.

- Kofi gives a PSA to not try this at home.

Hawkins goes for the injured leg to take Clay down. Hawkins continues to work the leg. Clay kicks him over the rope and hits a slam on Hawkins' way back in. Santino talks about pancakes to keep with the Saturday morning theme. Clay hits a fisherman's suplex and a splash for the win.

Winner by pin: Brodus Clay

Santino and his Cobra get in the ring to celebrate and dance with the kids and Clay. This goes-on for about a minute. We go to commercial.

Next week we will see Damien Sandow, as Superstars try to match wits with him.

This week's Superstar Spotlight: Rey Mysterio

Rey says "619" is derived from Austin's 3:16 and the area code of San Diego. He then gives us a demonstration from SummerSlam fan Axxess.

Antonio Cesaro defeated Santino Marello by pinfall.  Late in the match, Santino had the Cobra sock, but got distracted by Aksana.  Cesaro is able to use that to his advantage to finish off Santino in the non-title matchup.

Damien Sandow defeated Yoshi Tatsu by pinfall.  Sandow won in a very quick match over Yoshi.

Rosa Mendes was shown doing a photo shoot backstage.  Abraham Washington shows up with his team, the Primetime Players, and grabs the camera from the camera guy to start taking photos of PTP instead.

Alberto Del Rio won a Fatal 4-Way match to determine #1 contender for the World Heavweight Championship.  Competing in the match were Del Rio, Rey Mysterio, Kane, and Daniel Bryan.  Late in this match, Kane and Bryan battle ringside, with Bryan clotheslining Kane over a crowd barricade.  Bryan gets back in the ring.  Rey Mysterio hit a 619 on Daniel Bryan and Del Rio at once.  Rey goes to the top rope and hits his diving headbutt move on Bryan.  He goes to pin Bryan, but Ricardo Rodriguez pulls Rey out of the ring, allowing Del Rio to steal the pinfall for the win.  Del Rio is the #1 contender for Sheamus' World Championship.

> 07/16/12 : Raw SuperShow results: Cena to cash in on Punk; AJ and Bryan to wed on Raw 1,000!

LAS VEGAS – On the action-packed final two-hour Raw in history, AJ accepted Daniel Bryan’s wedding proposal and John Cena announced that he will cash in his Money in the Bank championship contract against WWE Champion CM Punk on Raw’s 1,000th episode.

WWE Champion CM Punk vs. Big Show announced (PHOTOS)
In the same city where WWE Champion CM Punk delivered his blistering "pipe bomb" a little more than a year ago (MORE), The Straight Edge Superstar kicked off the final Raw before the historic 1,000th episode by declaring he has firmly proven he is the best in the world. (RAW 1,000 COVERAGE)

But, Big Show interrupted to offer his thoughts on how the champion’s last year has gone.

But inside the sold-out Mandalay Bay Casino, Big Show interrupted to offer his thoughts on how the champion’s last year has gone and claim he was inches away from winning a championship contract at Money in the Bank the night before. As The World’s Largest Athlete and Punk traded verbal barbs, The World’s Largest Athlete pointed out the gigantic implications of their main event match. With the very good chance Punk could get knocked out, he’d be in real jeopardy of Mr. Money in the Bank cashing in his contract.

Brodus Clay vs. JTG

From the sound of the bell, JTG offered just about zero challenge to Brodus Clay, until JTG started targeting Clay’s knee. Before JTG could mount a comeback, though, the massive Clay battled back and brutalized JTG with a headbutt followed up by sending his massive frame down onto his hapless opponent.

Chris Jericho

With Vickie Guerrero at his side, Mr. Money in the Bank Dolph Ziggler reminded the WWE Universe that all past Money in the Bank contract holders successfully cashed in their contracts. Then as Ziggler rattled of names of Superstars who he claims he’ll be better than — including Bret Hart, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock — Chris Jericho emerged to confront him. As Jericho remained silent, Ziggler suggested that Jericho could be losing his touch. Without saying a single word, Jericho blasted Ziggler with a hard-hitting Codebreaker!

The latest returning Raw legend to take on Health Slater was Rikishi, who absolutely obliterated Slater! It was all downhill after a blistering kick to the face, followed by a very uncomfortable looking Stinkface. To finish off Slater, Rikishi dropped all of his crushing 400-plus-pound mass on his helpless opponent. Following the win, Jimmy and Jey Uso joined their father in a celebratory dance that would make Brodus Clay jealous.

Daniel Bryan proposes to AJ

PHOTOS

In mixed tag action, Eve partnered with The Miz to take on AJ & Daniel Bryan. When the referee was distracted by Miz, AJ rolled up Eve for the pinfall.

After the match, Bryan poured his heart out to the diminutive Diva and outrightly admitted, “AJ, I love you.” Then, he got down on one knee, extended an engagement ring and asked, “AJ, will you marry me?”

An emotional AJ allowed Bryan to slip the ring on her finger and she said the magic word: “yes.” Then, the two embraced in a passionate kiss and lead the WWE Universe in chanting “Yes! Yes! Yes!” to their big news.

The two will be married on Raw's 1000th episode next Monday at 8/7 CT on USA Network. But first, they will be Christian's special guests on the "Peep Show" this Friday on SmackDown on Syfy at 8/7 CT.

Ryback

PHOTOS

In his toughest challenge yet, Ryback was up against Jack Swagger, who came out of the gate with a formidable offense. After the impressive start, it looked as if Swagger could be the Superstar to hand Ryback his first loss. But it was not to be. After a monster clothesline followed by three brutal powerbombs in a row, Ryback left the The All-American American reeling. Following the impressive path of destruction, Ryback lead the WWE Universe in chanting: “Feed me more!”

In an impressive win, Alberto Del Rio forced Zack Ryder to tap out to his Cross Armbreaker. When Del Rio refused to release the painful return, Rey Mysterio stunned the WWE Universe and charged in to attack Del Rio! As the two Superstars mixed it up, Mysterio blasted Del Rio with the 619!

One night after their victory at Money in the Bank against Hunico & Camacho, the WWE Tag Team Champions followed up with a title match against The Prime Time Players on Raw Supershow. It was the first time the champions defended their titles on Raw. While All World Promotions owner A.W. argued with the referee, Kofi Kingston seized the moment and blasted Titus O’Neil with Trouble in Paradise, allowing R-Truth to follow-up for the win. After the bout, A.W. made it clear: he was not happy with the outcome.

AJ & Daniel Bryan vs. Eve and a partner of her choice announced
While Daniel Bryan was apologizing to AJ – saying he got caught up trying to become WWE Champion – Eve interrupted with news from the WWE Board of Directors. She and a partner of her choosing would be facing AJ & Bryan in tag action later in the night.

John Cena - CM Punk

After pushing themselves to the limit in their respective matches one night earlier at Money in the Bank, Big Show and WWE Champion CM Punk fought tooth-and-nail in the night’s main event. Just when it looked like The Straight Edge Superstar had Show right where he wanted, Punk launched himself with a flying elbow from the top rope. But Show came back with a wicked chokeslam that almost resulted in a three count. Next, with the referee knocked out of commission by Big Show, the bout ended in a disqualification and Show continued to batter the champion. But before he could inflict more damage, Mr. Money in the Bank John Cena charged in with his briefcase.

After citing Punk’s 239-day reign as champion, Cena announced he would be cashing in his championship contract next week. “At Raw 1,000, with both of us fresh, we will find out who the best in the world really is,” Cena said.

Not done yet, Mr. Money in the Bank followed up on his Tout to the WWE Universe about making an announcement from earlier in the day. As he started to utter the words “My huge announcement? …” Cena swiftly bashed Show with his metal Money in the Bank briefcase, sending him crashing to the arena floor.

Alberto Del Rio & Rey Mysterio At Last Night’s WWE Raw Supershow

I totally agree with U I want Rey Mysterio back. The WWE isn't the same without Rey Mysterio, and Sin Cara.I hope Rey Mysterio can at least be at WrestleMania28,let's all pray for him to return,so he can be part of the match ups at WrestleMania28!!

Yeah I was there and unless they were backstage they definitely were not there neither made an appearance. If Rey was there he would have probably made an appearance off screen.

I'd personally love to see Rey return to Smackdown and start a feud with Hunico/Camacho. It'd really help them get over as heels. I know, I know it's probably because they're both Mexican but I don't know, it's a thought worth entertaining. Hunico/Rey could put on some fantastic matches too.

01-09: Mysterio talks Comic-Con, Raw and the WWE Title

SAN DIEGO – Among the legions of masked mystery men and women filling the San Diego Convention Center for Comic-Con International 2011 this weekend, there were none more excited to attend the annual pop-culture extravaganza than real-life superhero Rey Mysterio, who despite growing up in the 619, experienced the event for the very first time this year.

“The feel here is incredible,” The Ultimate Underdog told WWE.com on Thursday, when Comic-Con International opened to the public. “I didn’t really know what to expect, except that it revolved around everything related to comics and new movies that were coming out, but I’m really amazed by the set-up and the work that everybody puts into it. I’m blown away.” (WATCH | PHOTOS)

Mysterio’s enjoyment of the convention came to a momentary halt, however, when former WWE Superstar CM Punk interrupted Mattel and WWE’s joint panel. After Rey, Triple H, WWE Hall of Famer Bret “Hit Man” Hart and Mattel designers answered questions from WWE Universe members in attendance, the brash Second City Savior burst into the conference hall – his newly won WWE Championship in hand – to taunt The Game and throw a few verbal jabs in Mysterio’s direction as well. (WATCH | READ MORE)

“Rey-Rey, you want a title shot, you can come to Chicago and get one any time,” the self-exiled Punk said with a smirk, attempting to goad his virtuous longtime rival into yet another confrontation.

Rey Mysterio signs an autograph at Comic-Con International 2011The Master of the 619 ultimately shrugged off Punk’s taunts, heading over to the Mattel booth to sign autographs, mingle with his fans and check out the WWE items on display – including an impressive collection of oversized Rey Mysterio WWE Rumblers designed by artists from Mattel, WWE and even Rey himself. Although Rey was affording himself some time to soak in the atmosphere, Punk's words reiterated what would be at stake just four days later on Raw: the WWE Title.

One night after Punk left WWE with the title at Money in the Bank, Mr. McMahon announced a tournament to determine a new WWE Champion. After overcoming both Dolph Ziggler and R-Truth, Mysterio earned the right to battle The Miz in the final round. While perusing Mattel’s upcoming WWE action figures – including a plastic replica of The Awesome One, complete with the WWE Title – the high-flying Superstar said in no uncertain terms that a second “Era of Awesome ” would not begin on Monday night.

“The fans here at Comic-Con have been telling me, ‘Rey, you’ve got to bring the title home to San Diego,’” Mysterio said. “Right now it’s all about having a good time, but come Monday, I’ve got to be in the ring and ready to go. I’m hoping that with all of the support not just here in San Diego, but all around the world, it’s gonna happen. No doubt, The Master of the 619 is coming home with the WWE Title.”

Can Mysterio thwart the devious Miz and become WWE Champion for the very first time? To find out, tune in to Raw this Monday night, live at 9/8 CT on USA Network.
