BREAKING NEWS: Zack Ryder, Dolph Ziggler and Justin Roberts involved in a car accident in San Diego

SAN DIEGO – WWE Superstars Zack Ryder, Dolph Ziggler and announcer Justin Roberts were involved in a car accident just outside of downtown San Diego on Friday afternoon just after 5:00 p.m. PT. Traveling in a limousine, the three were rear-ended as they were transported from Comic-Con: International at the San Diego Convention Center.

"It was a quiet ride since Dolph and I don’t get along. Then, all of a sudden, the brakes hit and I slid down the couch part of the limo. The driver stopped and the car behind us hit us," Zack Ryder said.

"I landed on the floor and my neck hit the edge of the chair," Ryder added. "Ziggler went flying. Justin went flying. The car hit us full speed; we all got thrown from our seats. My neck is a little sore. That’s it. We’re all OK though."

Local paramedics examined the former United States Champion and his fellow passengers, finding no major injuries, according to Ryder.

"It was a big limo, so we couldn’t tell exactly what was going on outside, but we merged on to a highway and then at one point we braked," Justin Roberts told WWE.com. "Zack basically slid down the bench. Dolph and I were sitting in the back facing forward, and Zack was on the bench sitting sideways. Then, out of nowhere, we got hit pretty hard."

Roberts continued, "You could tell by the way Zack was sitting, that his neck [was hurt], and Dolph was sitting right in front of where the impact was, so he got hit hard.

"I don’t remember what happened with myself," Roberts said. "I just know I was sitting on the floor with my knee up, and I was fine. Then I saw that my leg was bleeding, and it hurt. I don’t know what I hit my knee on."

Roberts explained that his cut was minor and he will have it reevaluated when he sees WWE physicians at the WWE Live Event in Tucson, Ariz., this weekend.

"I don’t think anyone was hurt in an emergency way," he said. "It doesn’t feel good, but we didn’t want to sit around in a hospital in San Diego."

According to Roberts, all three declined going to the hospital; he and Ryder are now traveling by car to Phoenix and Ziggler departed on a flight out of San Diego. Stay with WWE.com as more details become available.

WWE Over The Limit 2012 Results > Pre-Show Match > Kane Vs. Zack Ryder

RALEIGH, N.C. - Zack Ryder had a perfect opportunity to find retribution for Kane’s devastating attack earlier this year after The Big Red Monster nearly ended Long Island Iced-Z’s career. However, on the WWE Over the Limit YouTube Pre-Show, Ryder failed to overcome the odds and was subsequently decimated at the hands of The Devil’s Favorite Demon.

The bout wasn’t completely one sided, though. Broskis inside Raleigh’s PNC Arena fist pumped in support of the self-proclaimed Internet Champion as he tried to build momentum against The Big Red Monster. Early on, Ryder did his best to stay aggressive, but even with the WWE Universe and the YouTube faithful in his corner, Zack Ryder had one clear disadvantage against Kane– experience.

A 15-year veteran inside a WWE ring, Kane has locked up with Legends and WWE Hall of Famers every bit as fast, agile and popular as Long Island Iced-Z. After numerous battles against everyone from Rey Mysterio to Mark Henry, Kane remains unfazed by just about every WWE Superstars he faces.

The Big Red Monster came to Raleigh, N.C. with one goal in mind – ruin Ryder’s night. From the moment the opening bell sounded, this rivalry was reignited after months of Ryder’s recovery and subsequent battles to build his confidence to the point where he was ready for Kane.

Long Island Iced-Z proved that he was back at full strength and ready for a battle. Throughout the contest, he managed to keep momentum shifts even, a daunting task for anyone challenging The Big Red Monster. However, with momentum seemingly in his corner, Ryder’s efforts were for naught as a powerful chokeslam served as a painful reminder of the torment he suffered at the hands of Kane earlier this year.

Ever since that agonizing Monday night in February when Kane sent a wheelchair-bound Ryder off the entrance stage, Long Island Iced-Z has not been the same. Much of his trouble has stemmed from Eve, whose new position with Raw and SmackDown General Manager John Laurinaitis could only make his life worse.

Although Kane claimed victory at WWE Over the Limit, Zack Ryder’s impressive effort against The Big Red Monster certainly proved that he is serious, bro.

Report: The Reason For Zack Ryder’s New Storyline With Eve Torres

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter notes that U.S. Champion Zack Ryder is being placed in a romance storyline with Eve Torres because of fear of that Ryder’s involvement in the main event the week prior may have actually caused a ratings drop-off.

We reported over the weekend that WWE was actually considering dropping the WWE Championship off CM Punk due to similar trends that suggest that viewers switch channels or channel surf when Punk appears on television.

The main event of last week’s six-man-tag match featuring Ryder, Punk, and Daniel Bryan vs The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, and Dolph Ziggler drew a 2.67 cable rating, which was not only the lowest-rated main event for RAW this year, but the lowest non-holiday main event since Dec. 8, 1997.

12-19: WWE Raw SuperShow results: Punk, Bryan, Ryder start a revolution

Philadelphia — Philly is no stranger to revolutions, so it was the perfect city to place host to a trio of new titleholders who are turning WWE in a different direction —  WWE Champion CM Punk, World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan and United States Champion Zack Ryder. This revolution will be televised.

WWE Champion CM Punk, World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan & United States Champion Zack Ryder def. The Miz, Alberto Del Rio & Dolph Ziggler
It looks like the change The Straight Edge Superstar promised is finally coming to fruition. Entering the ring through a raucous Philly crowd, WWE Champion CM Punk, World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan & United States Champion Zack Ryder showed how they were leading WWE into 2012 by blasting their way through a veritable rogues’ gallery with blunt force. The exciting young Superstars each got their fill of action before Bryan made Del Rio tap out to The LeBell Lock.

If it wasn’t clear at WWE TLC, it should be after this bout — the future is now.

Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes def. Santino Marella (WATCH | PHOTOS)1336488967001|03:03
Still pleased with himself over the previous night’s underhanded victory over Booker T, Cody Rhodes took some leftover aggression out on the Italian Superstar. This Intercontinental Champion needs either a padded room or a some serious counseling.

1336377453001|01:15Primo & Epico def. The Usos (WATCH | PHOTOS)
They may have fallen to WWE Tag Team Champions Air Boom at WWE TLC, but the dangerous team of Primo & Epico has not lost direction. Looking to earn another title match, the duo bashed their way through the skilled team of Jey & Jimmy Uso with more than a little inspiration from their spicy manager, Rosa Mendes.

Kane attacked John Cena (WATCH)0|08:23
Hell has come back. One week after he shocked the WWE Universe by assaulting John Cena, Kane stomped into Philadelphia and did it all over again.

Hitting the ring to admit that he’s willing to fight if that’s what The Big Red Monster wants, Cena was surprised when Mark Henry appeared instead of Kane. The World’s Strongest Man and the former WWE Champion were ready to come to blows when the deafening pyro of The Devil’s Favorite Demon exploded. The masked monster ignored Henry and went right for the Cenation leader, but Cena was ready and clotheslined him over the ropes. Still, the fiery giant fought back, dragging his target from the squared circle before throwing him around the ringside area and tearing off his “Rise Above Hate” shirt in a frightening display of rage.

1336383700001|02:25Sheamus def. Jinder Mahal (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Give Jinder Mahal some credit. Frustrated after getting obliterated by The Celtic Warrior last week, the Punjabi Superstar wanted to face The Great White to prove he could beat him. Instead, Sheamus wiped the floor with Mahal before putting him away with The Celtic Cross. Okay, so don't give him too much credit.

Alicia Fox def. Divas Champion Beth Phoenix in a Title-Free Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)1336377450001|01:59
The Glamazon just got outfoxed. A day after she smashed Kelly Kelly at WWE TLC, the Divas Champion locked up with the leggy Alicia Fox and found herself staring at the lights when it was all over. Smart, spunky and beautiful, it’s no wonder Alicia is now blogging for internet sensation Perez Hilton alongside her pals Kelly and Eve at FitPerez.com/WWEDivas.

1336383702001|04:01Randy Orton def. Wade Barrett by Disqualification (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Still wearing the scars of his brutal Tables Match with Randy Orton, the villainous Wade Barrett didn't bother trying to have a legitimate match with The Viper — he just wanted to hurt him. And that’s exactly what the British Thug did as he got himself disqualified by driving his thumb into Orton's eye before ruthlessly slamming his opponent through a table. Clearly, this rivalry is far from over.

Six-Man Tag Team Match set for main event (PHOTOS)
The trio of WWE Champion CM Punk, World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan and United States Champion Zack Ryder had reason to celebrate. Lifelong sports-entertainment fans, the three Superstars overcame some serious odds to walk away from WWE TLC with their respective titles in hand. But the mutual admiration society didn't have much time to pat each other on the back in Philadelphia. Soon besieged by the tyrannical trio of The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler, the three champions fought off their attackers before receiving word from Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis that they will face those three Superstars in tonight’s main event.

TLC 2011: United States Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder

Will Zack Ryder finally get a United States Championship Match
against Dolph Ziggler? Woo Woo Woo! You know it!

At WWE TLC: Tables Ladders and Chairs, the self proclaimed
Internet Champion will finally have an opportunity to win his first recognized WWE
singles title, thanks to his No. 1 Broski, John Cena.

On the Dec. 5 edition of Raw SuperShow, Cena selflessly agreed
to Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Interim Raw General Manager,
John Laurinaitis’ stipulation that The Cenation Commander-in-Chief forego a WWE
Championship Match himself in order for Long Island Iced-Z to get one last opportunity
to earn a United States title bout. All Ryder needed to do was defeat Mr.
Laurinaitis’ handpicked opponent, The World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry in
a match with no disqualifications and no count-outs! The overwhelming
expectation of the WWE Universe was that the Twitter-trending leader of the”
Zack Pack” was going to be the next inductee into The World Strongest Man’s
“Hall of Pain.”

When all hope seemed lost and Ryder’s title-free match pinfall
victory over Ziggler and almost 25,000 twitition signatures seemed moot, Cena
charged the ring, took advantage of the fact that there were no disqualifications
and assured that Ryder won the contest. In doing so, Ryder finally won the
opportunity to challenge Dolph for the United States Championship.

Will Zack make the most of this opportunity he’s worked so
hard for and be able hang the United States Title next to his Christmas
stocking and headband? Not if the longest reigning champion in WWE stays true
to form. Over the last few months, Ziggler’s win-loss record in title-free
matches has been less than stellar but he’s continuously found a way to win
when it really counts, in title matches.
Dolph has also had two matches on the last two WWE pay-per-view events.  At TLC, he’ll be completely focused on
deleting the Internet Champion from title contention once and for all.

Can Zack show up the showoff and win the vaunted United
States Championship? We’ll find out at WWE TLC on Dec. 18, live on
pay-per-view.

A broski's sacrifice

The WWE Universe will say what they will about John Cena, but on WWE Raw SuperShow, the 10-time WWE Champion proved that if he is one thing, it is selfless.

After defeating Zack Ryder to earn a spot in the WWE Championship Match at WWE TLC, a visibly distraught Long Island Iced-Z couldn’t believe he lost a U.S. Title opportunity. With his friendship in question, Cena marched to Interim Raw General Manager John Laurinaitis’ office and relinquished his spot in WWE TLC’s main event for Ryder to have another chance to earn a U.S. Title bout. The reason is simple, Cena sees a great deal of potential in the young Superstar and wants him to have his fair chance.

1311367419001|02:24“Zack Ryder is one of those Superstars that has the drive to either go down swinging or be noticed,” Cena said. “He’s the first Superstar in a long time, along with CM Punk, that will do anything to show people they have the passion for this business.”

Ryder’s second chance to earn a U.S. Championship Match seemed to be too daunting a task for the Long Island native. World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry was beyond prepared to induct Ryder into the Hall of Pain. However, Cena again proved his loyalty and selflessness by helping Long Island Iced-Z secure the victory.

The self-proclaimed Internet Champion’s rise in popularity can be attributed to his use of social media and the fan-favorite YouTube show “Z! True Long Island Story.” There’s no denying his impact when legions of followers amongst the WWE Universe all exclaim “Woo! Woo! Woo!” in unison with Ryder. Long Island Iced-Z’s also spearheaded a ground-breaking Twitter petition topped off at nearly 25,000 names, one of them being Cena himself.

Cena understood what was being asked of him when Mr. Laurinaitis presented the possibility of Ryder receiving another chance to face U.S. Champion Dolph Ziggler. An accomplished ring warrior, the Cenation leader knows the support of other WWE Superstars is crucial in being successful.

1312693145001|00:46“No one has thrown Ryder a lifeline,” Cena explained. “I am participating in one of the biggest matches in history on April 1, with or without the WWE Title.  I’m confident I’ll get another chance, but Zack may not.”

When he debuted in WWE in 2002, a rookie Cena answered an open challenge from Kurt Angle. While Angle came out victorious, Superstars took notice of the young and ambitious West Newbury, Mass., upstart and went out of their way to show their approval of what at the time the future Cenation leader referred to as “ruthless aggression.”

“I was fortunate enough to have individuals stick up for me early in my career,” Cena explained. “I wouldn’t be where I am if it was not for those opportunities.”

Of course, Ryder’s U.S. Title Match at WWE TLC came after Cena helped Long Island Iced-Z defeat the World Heavyweight Champion. But the 10-time WWE Champion does not live in fear of being inducted into Henry’s Hall of Pain when they battle at the special three-hour WWE Raw SuperShow.

1311399829001|03:55“Mark’s a big boy, but I wouldn’t get into any business that I didn’t think I could handle,” Cena said.

Love him or hate him, thanks to the Cenation leader’s sacrifice, the WWE Universe will see Zack Ryder finally challenge Dolph Ziggler for the United States Title at WWE TLC. Will Cena’s effort be for naught, or will the Internet Champion become the U.S. Champion? Find out at WWE TLC, Sunday Dec. 18 at 8/7 p.m. CT only on pay-per-view.
